Day One in Paradise
Mom and I traveled to Cancun on Tuesday July 3rd. We had a smooth travel day which made the arrival stress free. The thick humidity and driver from Hope 4 Cancer greeted us right outside the airport for our 40 minute drive to the resort. We are staying in the Zona Hotelera area which is clean and safe. Our resort is pretty great- ocean & pool access, the fitness center, spa… I’m never leaving!
We rode into the clinic a little later than the rest of the group of patients here. It is a clean facility with new technology and great views of the lagoon that promote healing. Day one was more of an orientation day with just a few treatments.
I started with getting a full body ultrasound to ensure my lymph nodes and organs are clear and healthy. I am in the clear minus a little bit of fatty liver disease from the previous chemo I received. It is only stage one so it isn’t something to necessarily worry about but you know me I am doing everything in my power to reverse that.
Blood work was next which I always dread. Before I arrived they kept asking if I had a port which I do because it makes life so much simpler instead of being poked all the time. Apparently they don’t use ports in the Cancun clinic so I am poked daily. Typically it takes nurses multiple tries before they find a vein but today was their lucky day-- they got it on the first try! They left the catheter in so they didn’t have to poke me the next day because they could see how hard my veins would be to access.
I was directed into an exam room so we could get and EKG. After that I was asked to sit in this pitch black, freezing cold room for 15 minutes. I was given 4 vials of sono-photo dynamic sensitizer. This is a plant based substance like chlorophyll. In two days I will begin sono therapy which helps activate this.
Now it was time for breakfast. I had to go in fasting so we had a little bit later of a meal. We had a green salad, green juice, super food smoothie & kombucha. I actually enjoyed this breakfast. Simple and clean.
Next was the coffee enema… I had no idea what to expect. They call it their Starbucks but it’s definitely no iced coconut milk coffee. It’s just as it sounds- warm coffee water is used in the enema. Coffee enemas are known to help flush out the bacteria and heavy metals from your liver and colon. If you want a good detox I highly recommend this!
I then had a 20 minute massage which is a daily treatment. This is one of my favorite treatments because I can just fully relax or take a quick nap!
Lunch time!! We were served chickpea soup and a "red, white & blue" smoothie cake for the 4th of July. This meal I enjoyed too.
My last treatment was a B17 vitamin or Laetrile infusion. This is a treatment that is not legal in the US and is only in clinics in Mexico, Germany and some parts of Asia. This substance comes from the Apricot Seed so it is natural. It helps with targeting cancer cells and promoting a healthy immune system. I also receive this treatment daily.
The shuttle from the clinic back to the resort typically leaves around 3 or 3:30 each day. I finished around 2:30 so mom decided we needed some adventure in our lives. We took the public bus which had no AC but only costs 60 cents. They got a nice tip from us since we gave them $2 for the two of us.
That afternoon we took a walk around the resort property to get some exercise and also walked to the grocery store across the street from where we are staying. The clinic and the resort rave about this grocery store and even the yelp reviews are great but I wasn’t super impressed. They mentioned this organic section but it was all processed which didn’t make any sense for the healthy diet they recommend. I didn’t see any green vegetables in the produce section cuz they had turned brown and the salad bar was very poor quality… so fresh fruits and vegetables is a total fail at the store. I am a spoiled LA girl!
We ordered room service for dinner because it is pretty cheap and have a different variety on the menu. We just relaxed in the room and prepared for the early 2nd day.
"sono-photo dynamic sensitizer" - sounds interesting. I'm going to check it out. <3
